GOLF COURSE CLASSIFICATIONS
Defence Courses
Maximum courses in India are maintained by the armed forces. These Army-Navy-Air Force- BSF owned courses account for 60 percent of all golf courses in India. Of late these courses are designated as ‘Ecological Park and Training Areas’. These Golf Courses are generally member’s only courses. Non Members are allowed to play in these courses with security clearance.
Government Leased Courses
These are generally member courses. The government leases out the land to the club committee or board. The committee takes care of the full operations of the course. Golf courses like the Delhi Golf Club & Royal Calcutta Golf Club are among the golf courses which are made on land leased by the government.
Real Estate Courses
The idea of a Real Estate Course is to combine a golf course with a full housing society i.e. home, town houses, apartments and condos. These courses have members who are owners or residents of the property. These courses also allow non-members to earn extra revenue.
Public Courses
These courses are owned by the government. In India there is only one public course. The government has set up its own management team to look after the operations of the course. There are memberships in these types of courses but their main purpose is to allow everyone who plays golf or wants to learn the game.
Resort Courses
Golf Resorts have been built in India to introduce leisure with business facilities of high standards. These courses attract tourists through-out the year. In India, there are quite a few hotels and resorts with golf courses that provide world class golfing experience to the guests.
